Kahdeksaa Oulun alueella olevaa koulua on uhkaa lakkautus muutaman vuoden sisällä. Listalla ovat Kiimingin Tirinkylän ja Ylikylän koulut, Keiskan koulu Haukiputaalla, Takkurannan koulu Kellossa sekä Pikkaralan, Sanginsuun, Kuivasojan ja Lämsänjärven koulut (Kaleva 1.3.)
Koulujen kohtalo liittyy taas kerran tehtävään palveluverkkoselvitykseen. Alueellisessa selvityksessä tutkitaan koulujen lisäksi kunkin alueen päiväkotien, nuorisotalojen sekä liikunta- ja kulttuuripaikkojen tarvetta tulevina vuosina. Selvityksiä tehdään 14, yksi jokaisesta Oulun suuralueesta.
